Years ago someone somewhere ran out of pci slots and could either use an isdn card or a ethernet card. as the constant switching of cards became annoying, the first a.lp linux box/standard gateway(K6/3 with isdn, lan and no screen) was setup ;). then we realized that you could run vpns on linux quite easily. So we set up more and more and more. We now have several lans that are all linked into a single subnet using network bridges. This obviously makes gaming alot easier.
the project has grown into a general "do what you want as long as it has cables and stuff" club.
